Description

Lagavulin 16 Year Old stands as one of Islay’s most revered single malts, recognized for its depth, intensity, and unmistakable maritime character. Matured for a minimum of sixteen years in oak casks, it delivers a richly layered profile defined by pronounced peat smoke, coastal salinity, and refined sweetness. A benchmark for smoky whisky, Lagavulin 16 is crafted for enthusiasts who appreciate robust structure, long aging, and the interplay between peat and oak.

Aroma: Dense, smoldering peat smoke, sea spray, iodine, and charred oak, supported by dried fruits, vanilla, and a faint sherry-driven richness.
Palate: Full-bodied and assertive, featuring coal smoke, maritime brine, roasted malt, and dark toffee. Hints of fig, leather, and subtle spice emerge beneath the peat.
Finish: Exceptionally long, warming, and smoky, with lingering notes of wood ash, seaweed, and sweet malt.

Lagavulin 16 pours with a deep amber hue, immediately suggesting maturity and concentration. The nose is commanding: a robust wave of kiln-dried peat intertwines with coastal mineral tones and a gentle oxidative sweetness derived from extended cask influence. On the palate, the whisky demonstrates remarkable balance. Powerful smoke framed by supple oak, an undercurrent of caramelized sugars, and a restrained fruitiness reminiscent of stewed orchard fruit. The mouthfeel is viscous and enveloping, carrying the smoke in measured, elegant progression. The finish endures with impressive intensity, marked by warm tar, sea salt, and a final echo of sweet malt. This expression exemplifies the classic Islay style at its most polished and mature.
